Why does portfolio writing for an NYU Abu Dhabi program need strict attention to submission limits?
NYU Abu Dhabi’s MFA in Art and Media application requires an artist’s portfolio capped at exactly 20 items of recent work.
Eligible Items
Documentation of sculptures or exhibitions does not count toward this allowance. A portfolio that exceeds these limits or misunderstands what counts as an eligible item risks the entire submission being weakened before a reviewer even engages with the written commentary.
Submission Format
Submission format matters just as much as content.
Online Application
All portfolios must go through the official NYUAD MFA online application, since physical copies are explicitly not accepted and cannot be returned.
Written Commentary
The written commentary accompanying each piece needs to function within this digital, tightly capped format, making every word and every selected item count rather than padding the portfolio with secondary work.
