Do I really need to cite images if they are Creative Commons licensed?

Yes. Free-to-use and free-to-not-cite are not the same thing. NYU's own library guidance is explicit that Creative Commons and public domain materials still require proper citation, and this applies whether the image appears in a paper, a presentation, or a portfolio.

What is the difference between proofreading and editing?

Proofreading typically refers to a final check for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Editing goes further, addressing structure, clarity, argument flow, and referencing accuracy alongside surface-level correctness.

How do I know which citation style my document actually needs?

This depends on your field, not personal preference. Literature courses typically use a different style than sciences or social sciences courses. If you are unsure, confirm directly with your professor, teaching assistant, or a librarian, or share your course details with the writer.

Can the writer check my referencing format specifically?

Yes. If referencing accuracy is your main concern rather than a full structural edit, let the writer know, and the review can focus specifically on confirming every in-text citation and reference entry matches your required format.

What if my document mixes citation styles without me realizing it?

This is more common than students expect, particularly when working from multiple source types like images, websites, and journal articles. The writer checks for this kind of inconsistency across the entire document, not just the obvious text citations.

What if I need proofreading faster than expected?

The Urgent tier covers a 6-hour turnaround for situations where your deadline moved up unexpectedly. Message the writer directly with your document and your deadline, and you will get a clear answer on whether the timeline is realistic. Your submission deadline does not move because the document still needs a final check. Message the writer now with your document and what is due next.

Why does proofreading at NYU Abu Dhabi need to account for field-specific citation rules?

NYU’s own citation guidance is explicit that the correct style depends on field, not personal preference.

Does proofreading include checking image and figure citations, not just text?

Yes. Citation rules for images, figures, and tables differ across APA, MLA, and Chicago, and even Creative Commons-licensed or public domain material still requires proper citation. This is checked as part of every proofreading order, not treated as an afterthought.

Who is editing my document?

About the writer assigned to proofreading and editing orders: Saad Al-Shaikh oversees the academic standards applied to every order, with writers matched by subject so referencing and structural review reflect genuine understanding of what your specific course expects. The writer assigned to your document confirms your referencing style and rubric before starting the edit.

Will my university find out I used this service?

No. Every order is handled under complete confidentiality, and no university, professor, or third party is ever informed. Your document and your information stay between you and the writer.

What does the proofreading and editing process actually look like?

Referencing Requirements

The writer starts by confirming your course’s required referencing style and your specific document type, since requirements differ even within the same university depending on discipline. Referencing gets checked for internal consistency first: does every in-text citation appear in the reference list, and does every entry match the format your course requires, whether that is APA, MLA, or Chicago.

Writing Support

NYU Abu Dhabi’s own Writing Center, located in the Library, works with students across any field or discipline and any type of writing assignment, and the university also runs a dedicated continuation initiative called the Writing Partners Program, pairing students moving from the First-Year Writing Seminar into Core Curriculum courses with regular individual meetings with a writing instructor.

Tailored Editing

The proofreading and editing approach mirrors this same philosophy: support tailored to your specific stage and discipline, not a one-size grammar check.

Final Review

From there, the edit moves through structure and clarity, flagging paragraphs that drift from the main argument, before a final pass checks grammar, punctuation, and consistency in tense and voice.

Is the proofreading and editing service Turnitin-safe?

Yes. Every edited document comes with a Turnitin similarity report of 0 to 5 percent, confirming the edit has not introduced any content that would flag as unoriginal.

What our students say

“My topic touched on pre-modern Arabic literary sources and I had no idea our library had a dedicated project making this material accessible in English. The writer pointed me toward it directly, and my literature review ended up far more grounded in primary regional sources than my first draft.”
